Reply:

If you want equality of outcome as opposed to opportunity (or "equity" as the buzzword buzzes) then take an IQ test, see if you score low, and if you do demand a monthly hardship/disability check for your plight. That makes more sense than punishing those who get good grades by rewarding the reverse. Of course, common sense isn't currently that common as of late, so even discussing IQ as it relates generally speaking to race is considered racist. So good luck getting the Government to pay cash to those who genuinely need it based on IQ. The fake news media spin doctors regarding this story would rather have you think racist teachers are being unfair, or perhaps just that somehow asking for special privileges for blacks in a meritocracy system makes sense because of slavery or some such tripe. Heaven forbid a discussion of why such a request might be happening because of a disadvantage! That would be helpful perhaps, but seems a bit racially charged and helping others is obviously less important than being wrongly perceived as a racist. In my predominantly black hometown of Indianapolis, AKA Naptown, our folk definition/understanding of the evils of racism was thus...

Applying group stereotypes to individuals and/or calling for terrorism or violence against a group one sees as wholly inferior is certainly racism as I always knew it. One could also have in group preference/prejudice, which was in my experience always seen as a lessor offense, just as was being too quick to judge based on stereotypes, but that was racist to larger degree than just being prejudiced.

All that said, the only truly vile type of racist, as in the epitome of that word's already evilly negative connotation, is the violent cross burning KKK types. Luckily those rejects were always a vocal minority and are long since extinct, absent the LARPing feds.

We Alex Jones types saw to it that those few toothless wonders fell for good to our protests, but nowadays I get old protest songs against the KKK censored for being racist because AI doesn't understand humor and satire and YouTube/Big Tech doesn't respect free speech human rights. Hell, wow even acknowledging general group truths in the form of some stereotypes is racism. And who needs threats of real world intimidation and violence when now a days words are considered literally violence and Make America Great Again is considered a white supremacist battle cry. And nope, no need to think your race is the top dog cream of the crop. Simply admitting than any racial group excels at something more overall than another means you are a supremacist. Even if that something is professional sports, where Larry is a legend, but gaged his success against black defenders. That's a racist slippery slope that no good anti-racist would even consider sliding on, LOOKING AT YOU LARRY, YOU RACIST! 🤡 🌎

In a 2004 interview with ESPN, Larry Bird revealed how much he admired the athleticism of African-American players. It almost always makes them the better defenders, aided to no lesser degree by their nature: “It is a black man's game, and it will be forever. I mean, the greatest athletes in the world are African-American."

The American Psychological Association Has Lost Its Mind

Harry Kazenoff
CapitalResearch

When the American Psychological Association (APA) published its guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men in August 2018, few paid attention to the dry academic piece. It instructed therapists and clinicians to treat traditional masculinity (defined as stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, and aggression) as “on the whole, harmful” and entirely socially constructed. It wasn’t until a synopsis was published five months later that TV pundits, writers, and the twitterverse noticed the bazar display of intersectional insanity concocted by an organization that is synonymous with mental health. It’s not surprising though. The psychologists who make up the APA are overwhelmingly left-wing.  A 2012 study found that of 800 psychologists surveyed, only 6 percent identified themselves as conservative.

The American Psychological Association is a fixture of the American mental health landscape and a national accrediting agency. In order to get a license to practice psychology, most states require applicants to first acquire a PhD in Psychology. This in turn means students take courses accredited by the Psychological Association and sometimes participate in APA-approved internships. Afterwards, these students need to take the Psychological Association’s Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) as well as a state-based examination that is usually advised by the Psychological Association and include the APA ethics code. The APA even provides continuing education for psychologists who are required to renew their licenses. The APA’s audited financial statements from 2017 show that over 50% of its $138.4 million in revenue—$74.4 million—comes from “licensing, royalties, and rights,” which likely refers to the APA-accredited courses.  By the time an individual becomes a licensed psychologist, the American Psychological Association will have influenced much about how that therapist approaches his or her practice.

Unlike the American Bar Association, which is a 501(c)(6) trade association, the APA is primarily a 501(c)(3) public charity; it is the oldest of the APA entities, has most of the APA’s total revenue and expenditures, and even receives federal grants. Despite its legitimized position as an institution of pure medical science, it’s Form 990 shows that the APA’s third highest expenditure (which included over $2.5 million in federal donations) was dedicated to social justice education and public policy.

That’s why the ideological and political inclinations of the Psychological Association are so noteworthy. In fact, it was only shortly after its creation at the end of the 19th century that the APA became a political actor.

According to the American Psychological Association’s own archived timeline, the APA was founded in 1892 by G. Stanley Hall in Clark University when psychology was still an extremely new field and had no meaningful relationship with the government. Early on, the field of psychology would have a far-left streak. In 1899, the APA elected John Dewey as president for the year. A self-described “democratic socialist,” John Dewey was a far-Left Socialist who opposed the enlightenment concepts of individualism enshrined by negative rights—ideas that the founding fathers used to create the United States.

As the organization and the field of psychological science grew, so did its relationship with the government as advancements in the field allowed the APA to assist with specific government policies. That was the case in 1917 when the APA president Robert M. Terkes wrote to President Wilson to offer the APA’s assistance should the U.S. enter World War I. Shortly thereafter, the APA started the Committee on Psychological Examination of Recruits.

Despite its larger role as a mainstream institution, leftist ideology permeated the growing field. In 1937, the communist group called the ‘Psychologists League’ marched for more jobs on May 1st—May Day—during the Great Depression. While the APA itself did not participate and the league disbanded shortly before WWII, the League was the precursor to the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, also currently known as Division 9 of the APA. The APA would continue to grow thanks to its ongoing relationship with the military in WWII. It acquired its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 1940. Five years later, the government issued its first certificate to practice psychology.

In retrospect, WWII was a nexus point for the Psychological Association, when it exponentially grew in physical size and importance within American society. In 1961, the APA joined state governments to form the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB), and established a standard examination for practicing therapists, the EPPP.  Meanwhile, during the U.S. counter-culture movement in 1964, the Psychological Association supported President Johnson’s left-wing Great Society Program, which funded psychological research through Project Head Start. From the end of WWII to 1970, the APA’s membership rolls would grow 630 percent. A long way from the meager group of 26 men who met in a University study.

After the war, the APA expanded its activism in the legal system too, writing amicus briefs on cases seemly far outside its area of expertise. The APA is a vocal advocate for abortion starting with City of Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health (1983) through to Casey v. Planned Parenthood (1991). The APA has also fought against reopening the nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island in Metropolitan Edison Co v. People Against Nuclear Energy (1983), advocated for affirmative action policies in its brief for Fisher v. University of Texas (2016), and argued in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case to force the bakery to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.

Back in its area of expertise, the American Phycological Association uses its platform as an academic and mental health association to chime in on public health issues. But most of these efforts go to protecting Obamacare (ACA). Its website reports that the APA and its 501(c)(6) trade association (APA Practice Organization) in 2017 “joined together to issue more than 25 Action Alerts and Information Updates about the ACA. [Its] members rose to the occasion each time, sending almost 60,000 messages to Congress, urging them to preserve the law.”

If these activities weren’t enough, much can be gleaned from the American Psychological Association’s funders. Philanthropists give more to healthcare than any other charitable cause, so naturally, the Psychological Association receives generous grants to support mental health initiatives. But many of the grants suggest a possible political motivation. The APA’s finances show that in both 2016 and 2017, the organization received between $2.25 million and $2.5 million in grants and contracts. FoundationSearch reports that between 1998-2017 organizations such as the left-wing Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Arcus Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, have contributed $100,000, $120,000, and $355,000, respectively. The Arcus Foundation specified many of its grants to focus on LGBT issues.

Since the election of President Trump, the APA expanded its range of issues to include climate change and immigration. On November 2018, the APA declared that climate change is its “call to action” as the organization helps environmentalists tailor messages to the public. The APA also opposes President Trump’s boarder wall on the U.S. southern border and advocated for the Dream Act of 2017. It’s unclear what these issues have to do with licensing and educating psychologists.

Regardless of the APA’s intentions, its decisions do not exist in a vacuum. For example, the growing belief that the best medical response to prepubescent children who claim to identify as another gender is to permanently alter their biology is encouraged by the APA’s deflection on the issue. Meanwhile, the APA elaborates that it is harmful for professionals or parents to “conform to any particular gender expression or identity.”

There is also the overuse of the debunked racial “implicit bias assessment,” which has irresponsibly led the APA to suggest that “80 percent to 90 percent of white people show this bias.” The APA has even suggested ways to treat bias without any evidence of what it even means to be “successful.” The term ‘bias’ does not automatically show malevolence or even intentionality when a person discriminates, one would think psychology above any other field would be aware of the power of subconscious thoughts regarding human behavior; the consequences can be severe when left unchecked.

The APA also enthusiastically adopted “microaggression,” as the proper term for an undeniable phenomenon, but many critics doubt it’s scientific credibility or fear the consequences of proliferating this rhetoric.

While men certainly face significant untreated mental health issues, the APA’s foray into gender politics takes a counterproductive step. If stoicism and traditional masculinity are viewed as the problem, the APA must say masculinity is socially constructed, even though its own guidelines have few applications for this philosophy. The major options therapists have include devaluing the client’s perceptions of their own masculinity, to educate them about their patriarchal privilege “to help them obtain the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to be effective allies and potentially live less restrictive lives,” and to occasionally meet them outdoors. If psychologists were to even suggest that masculinity is natural, that would directly violate Carl Roger’s humanistic theory that a therapist should have “unconditional positive regard” for their patient; but it also violates the more general rule that a therapist should not have unconditional negative regard for their clients.

The APA is still the leading voice in mental health, as well as the government’s gatekeeper of psychology licenses.  But it’s using its power to influence fields and topics far outside its area of expertise while campaigning for illiberal and nonscientific policies that barely touch on mental health.

End.

Why Social Stigma About Unexplained Phenomena Holds Humanity Back
There has been similar social stigma in recent decades around the topic of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), or UFOs — a topic that has been relegated to conspiracy theorists, B-Movie villains, and the weird uncle no one wants to talk to anymore. As was the case with other topics that hold stigma, many people would rather look the other way than be associated with what’s been labeled “crazy,” or “fringe.”...

The American Psychological Association Has Lost Its Mind

Leftism Is Not Liberalism

By Dennis Prager

What is the difference between a leftist and a liberal?

Answering this question is vital to understanding the crisis facing America and the West today. Yet few seem able to do it. I offer the following as a guide.

Here's the first thing to know: The two have almost nothing in common.

On the contrary, liberalism has far more in common with conservatism than it does with leftism. The left has appropriated the word "liberal" so effectively that almost everyone -- liberals, leftists and conservatives -- thinks they are synonymous.

But they aren't. Let's look at some important examples.

Race: This is perhaps the most obvious of the many moral differences between liberalism and leftism. The essence of the liberal position on race was that the color of one's skin is insignificant. To liberals of a generation ago, only racists believed that race is intrinsically significant. However, to the left, the notion that race is insignificant is itself racist. Thus, the University of California officially regards the statement "There is only one race, the human race" as racist. For that reason, liberals were passionately committed to racial integration. Liberals should be sickened by the existence of black dormitories and separate black graduations on university campuses.

Capitalism: Liberals have always been pro capitalism, recognizing it for what it is: the only economic means of lifting great numbers out of poverty. Liberals did often view government as able to play a bigger role in lifting people out of poverty than conservatives, but they were never opposed to capitalism, and they were never for socialism. Opposition to capitalism and advocacy of socialism are leftist values.

Nationalism: Liberals deeply believed in the nation-state, whether their nation was the United States, Great Britain or France. The left has always opposed nationalism because leftism is rooted in class solidarity, not national solidarity. The left has contempt for nationalism, seeing in it intellectual and moral primitivism at best, and the road to fascism at worst. Liberals always wanted to protect American sovereignty and borders. The notion of open borders would have struck a liberal as just as objectionable as it does a conservative. It is emblematic of our time that the left-wing writers of Superman comics had Superman announce a few years ago, "I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my American citizenship." When the writers of Superman were liberal, Superman was not only an American but one who fought for "Truth, justice, and the American way." But in his announcement, he explained that motto is "not enough anymore."

View of America: Liberals venerated America. Watch American films from the 1930s through the 1950s and you will be watching overtly patriotic, America-celebrating films -- virtually all produced, directed and acted in by liberals. Liberals well understand that America is imperfect, but they agree with a liberal icon named Abraham Lincoln that America is "the last best hope of earth."

To the left, America is essentially a racist, sexist, violent, homophobic, xenophobic and Islamophobic country. The left around the world loathe America, and it is hard to imagine why the American left would differ in this one way from fellow leftists around the world. Leftists often take offense at having their love of America doubted. But those left-wing descriptions of America are not the only reason to assume that the left has more contempt than love for America. The left's view of America was encapsulated in then-presidential candidate Barack Obama's statement in 2008. "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America," he said.

Now, if you were to meet a man who said that he wanted to fundamentally transform his wife, or a woman who said that about her husband, would you assume that either loved their spouse? Of course not.

Free speech: The difference between the left and liberals regarding free speech is as dramatic as the difference regarding race. No one was more committed than American liberals to the famous statement "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Liberals still are. But the left is leading the first nationwide suppression of free speech in American history -- from the universities to Google to almost every other institution and place of work. It claims to only oppose hate speech. But protecting the right of person A to say what person B deems objectionable is the entire point of free speech.

Western civilization: Liberals have a deep love of Western civilization. They taught it at virtually every university and celebrated its unique moral, ethical, philosophical, artistic, musical and literary achievements. No liberal would have joined the leftist Rev. Jesse Jackson in chanting at Stanford University: "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Western civ has got to go." The most revered liberal in American history is probably former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who frequently cited the need to protect not just Western civilization but Christian civilization. Yet leftists unanimously denounced President Donald Trump for his speech in Warsaw, Poland, in which he spoke of protecting Western civilization. They argued not only that Western civilization is not superior to any other civilization but also that it is no more than a euphemism for white supremacy.

Judaism and Christianity: Liberals knew and appreciated the Judeo-Christian roots of American civilization. They themselves went to church or synagogue, or at the very least appreciated that most of their fellow Americans did. The contempt that the left has -- and has always had -- for religion (except for Islam today) is not something with which a liberal would ever have identified.

If the left is not defeated, American and Western civilization will not survive. But the left will not be defeated until good liberals understand this and join the fight. Dear liberals: Conservatives are not your enemy. The left is.
